SPEED-IT Pushes for Inter-Academe Learning Collaboration

Never was it the ultimate goal of every student to go into formal education simply to get a diploma. It was always for the reason that they want to learn industry standards through collaboration with all the other learners, experts, and industry representatives.

Last week, SPEED-IT academe members came into agreement to make collaborations on a SPEED-IT maintained Curriculum Guide aligned with what the industry needs, and what is freely available on the internet. This would mark the beginning of a new way of learning, especially here in the Southern Philippines.

Teachers would transform from being lecturers to facilitators. Different schools would intermingle allowing access to shared resources. Industry representatives would mentor a pool of students, as early as first year, as they specialize on their area of discipline and primary tools of development, on a weekly basis.

All of these are aimed to benefit the three immediate stakeholders as follows:

1. Industry: To be able to absorb quality graduates, and be able to shorten their learning curve.

2. Academe: To maintain up-to-date curriculum with immediate industry feedback, as well as encourage culture of trans-formative learning.

3. Students: To engage in their field and harness their expertise as early as 1st year, and to engage in industry-standard projects. They would also develop team-centered project engagement especially when projects are collaborated between students from different institutions.

SPEED-IT members will further deliberate on its actual implementation and no sooner will we be able to see this in action.

Very Excited,

Christian Chiu
