SPEED-IT Banner Photoshop Design Contest

I. OBJECTIVES

  1. To showcase contestants ability to demonstrate Graphic Designing skills where creative output must be accomplished within specific timeframes, resources, and design constraints.
  2. To come up with a SPEED-IT Banner for the current SPEED-IT Summit.

II. PARTICIPANTS

  1. This is a one-person competition.
  2. Schools may participate with more that one contestant provided they adhere to the registration policy.

Building a Community of Innovators, Educators, and Entrepreneurs

IV. CONDUCT OF THE COMPETITION

  1. Contestants will be given one hour and thirty minutes to work out the banner design.
  2. The banner design, in its entirety, must be a single work of original creation by the Contestant.
  3. The contestants will be provided with a pre-selected set of images to work with.
  4. These supplied images must be recognisable as a central part of the banner design:
    1. One collage theme demonstrating the use of design tools and skills.
    2. One digital Photography image which has been improved or enhanced somehow using Photoshop.
    3. One image created by vector (or a combination of vector and raster) tools and skills.
    4. SPEED-IT Logo
  5. Within the duration of the competition, the judges will visit each contestant’s station and review every contestant’s work.
  6. After one hour and thirty minutes, the contestants will no longer be allowed to touch their computers.
  7. The design application will be closed. The organizer will NOT SAVE any pending changes. The contestants are therefore advised to always save the source file (PSD/AI/CDR) and render (JPEG) their works as frequent as possible.
  8. The judges will finalise their top three picks.
  9. After which, the judges will select five to ten contestants to whom they will be giving their comments. Take note, final results would already be submitted by this time. However, the judges may still override their decisions.
  10. With the shortlisted contestants, each Judge will then be giving one (1) minute to comment.
  11. After the judges give their comments to the shortlisted contestants, the top three contestants will be announced.

V. MECHANICS

  1. The banner design must be submitted as one (1) .psd/cdr/ai file and one (1) .jpeg file to analyze the images’ construction.
  2. File sizes must be:
    1. PSD/AI/CDR: Below 150MB
  3. Image Size: 6000 X 3000 pixels.
  4. All images and files used to create the submissions must also be submitted.
  5. Immediately after one hour and thirty minutes, when the contest ends, participants can no longer make any modifications. Whatever file available to the designated folder will be the ones subject for judging.
  6. Contestants not complying with the contest rules are subject to points deductions by the judges.

VI. SCORING OF THE COMPETITION

  1. Contestants will be judged on their accuracy , proficiency with Photoshop/Illustrator/CorelDraw, and ability to meet the given timeline.
  2. The caption must be complete and accurate, sufficient to convey the theme of this event.
  3. Contestants must use various skills, tools and techniques to create and assemble images.
  4. Judges in a panel of experts will vote for the winning entries from among all eligible entries based on the following criteria:
    1. Overall Creativity and Concept
    2. Message
    3. Visual impact
    4. Use of headings, text, images/symbols
  5. Your digital graphic design should: Gain attention and have eye appeal, Show imagination, creativity and originality, Convey a clear message to a targeted audience, Have a clear heading, subheading and images/symbols to enhance the message.
  6. The Judges will select the three (3) winning entries for First Place Winner, Second Place Winner, and Third Place Winner.

VII. PRE-CONTEST CONDITIONS

  1. At 11:00am, all contestants’ computers should be surrendered to the contest organizer.
  2. The organizers, together with the judges will inspect the individual units.

VIII. CONDITIONS

  1. By entering the Contest, all Contestants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to SPEED-IT, to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entries in connection with the Contest and promotion of the Contest, in any media now or hereafter known.
  2. SPEED-IT will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use.
  3. By entering, Contestants also agree to be bound by these Official Rules; that the decisions of the Judges are final and binding with respect to all matters relating to the Contest; and if the Contestant wins that School may use the winning design and each winner’s name, likeness, and/or voice in any publicity or advertising relating to the Contest or future promotions without compensation or approval.
  4. SPEED-IT reserves the right to verify the validity of the Contestant and to disqualify any Contestant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Official Rules or who tampers with the entry process.
  5. Failure by the School to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

IX. FILING OF PROTESTS

  1. All protests should be in writing and addressed to the contest organizer.
  2. Only protests from the coaches will be entertained.
  3. Only formally filed protests submitted before the awarding will be entertained.

X. PARTICIPANTS’ TOOLS

  1. Each Participant will provide his own computer unit; either a desktop or a laptop computer.
  2. You may use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw.

XI. CONTEST ORGANIZER
