3rd SPEED-IT Summit

A Champion’s journey…

To become a champion is not an easy achievement, you have to set a goal in order to reach what you aim, you have to carry  your own cross to reach the finish line and you have to take it step by step, to sharpen your character.

Last July 13, 2013 is the 3rd Southern Philippines Educators and Entrepreneurs Development for Information Technology (SPEED-IT) Summit and IT Skills  Competition held at Gaisano Mall, Koronadal South Cotabato, in celebration with the 14 th TNALAK FESTIVAL with the theme: “Building the Smart South Cotabato through the Local Champion” led by the SPEED-IT President Mr. RJ Sustiguer together with its Vice-President Mr. Christian Valeen Chiu.

Students of Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU), Systems Technology Institue (STI) College, Green Valley College (GVC), Marbel Institute of Technical College (MITC) and Ama Computer Learning Center (ACLC) IT, participated and joined the said competition.

Mr. RJ Sustiguer, President of the SPEED-IT opened the program by welcoming all the participants from different schools in the City of Koronadal.

A word of inspiration was given by the local champion of Software Development, Mr. Christian Valeen Chiu who introduced “Building a Smart Business.”  He encouraged  the students by his presentation, to “Plan first and Harvest later” based on the story of “Mang Lito” whose was once “pinagkaitan” with his failure to pass his application at his first job but strived hard and showed humbleness to his work and later on became the head in his department. Despite of unable to have proper education and because of his character of giving his best for his job and for the company, he harvested blessings which he truly deserve. Thus concluding the message for the students to “Give first and receive later”.

After the message, the SPEED-IT team prepared for the competition proper that included the Quiz Bee, “Digimon Wars” and the Photoshop contest. For the Quiz Bee Competition, students were measured by their analytical ability and knowledge. The 3rd prize was taken by Artchie Almirante, Debbie Joy Escobro, Sheena Coloso, John Marc Alimas Jurilla of GVC. Julius Marcelino, Harvey Inocencio and Kyle Louise Villar  of STI College took the 2nd prize while  NDMU captured the 1st prize with their students Sam Keeley Ong, Kenneth Casas and Carleen Forro together with their substitutes Elliel Dominic Cerna and Justin Bon Bohol.

On the second part of the competition, Mr. Martin Angelo Dideles, Local Champion in E-Governance introduced “Building a Smart Government” where he illustrated joint project with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), followed by the second competition, “Digimon Wars: Battle of the JAVA Monsters”. Digimon Wars Competition is a competition that measures Programming skills of participating schools in terms of JAVA Coding, and Turn-Based Strategy Making. The 3rd prize taken by Kenneth Mama of MITC while Deo Frederick Duran and Marlo S. Raño both of STI took 2nd prize. Grand winner or 1st prize went to Sam Keeley Ong and Rea Miramon of NDMU.

The third part of the competition, was presented by Mr. Orly Dela Cruz, Local Champion in Human Development and introduced “Building a Smart School” with the promotion of different education institution. After which, the third Photoshop competition commenced. The Photoshop Competition is a contest that measured creativity and styles in editing and special effects of each participating schools. The 3rd prize went to Ma. Nica Quiambao of STI College while 2nd prize was awarded to Albert Lungas of ACLC IT. Ervin Benez  of NDMU pocketed 1st prize.

Notre Dame of Marbel University took the lead amongst all other schools and the rest of the competition, capturing the over all Grand Champion for all events.

It was really a great day for the students for they went home not only as winners for the competition but also gaining camaraderie amongst their competitors – having friendly competition and as well as gaining new knowledge, techniques & strategies.

The event was successfully concluded with the help of the city government and the people behind the TNALAK FESTIVAL 2013!
